Abstract:

This communication presents an ongoing research project located at the confluence of two thematic fields: the social housing complexes and the urban landscape. Therefore, a synthesis or hybridization is proposed between two territories linked to ecological responsibility and also to social commitment, which must necessarily be addressed from sustainability parameters in an integrated manner.

The main objective of the proposed research is to outline intervention strategies, using a research by design methodology, for the recomposition of the public space of the public social housing estates of the city of Valencia built between 1952 and 1978. These strategies, which are considered a substantial part of the actions of urban regeneration of the areas located in what we can call "first periphery", must simultaneously address a recomposition of the urban landscape and the morpho-typological patterns. This implies a public action in which interventions in urbanism and housing are articulated, adressing complete "parts" of the city and avoiding partial approaches limited to creating new urbanized spaces or improving existing ones, or those limited to improving energy efficiency or functional conditions of the buildings.
