Abstract:

The Church of the Real Monasterio de El Puig de Santa María (Valencia, Spain) offers a huge variety of cross vaults, from the most elementary ones, such as the simple cross located on the naves and the chapels on the Gospel side. It also has a starry vault on the chapel of the Immaculate, considered the first star vault built in the valencian territory. The presbytery and baptistery chapel have radial cross vaults with squinchs. The vaults of present choir, located at the feet of the church is an intervention made at the end of the 20th century. Here we present part of the research that is being carried out in the vaults of the church under the project "Valencian cross vaults from the 13th to 16th centuries. Geometric analysis of its elements ", as a continuation of the doctoral thesis doctoral developed by Capilla Tamborero in 2016. Here we gather some of the studies and geometric analysis of the elements of some of these vaults. They will allow us to discover aspects of the geometry and construction of the first cross vaults in Valencian lands, both in terms of their spatial configuration and their geometric definition of the elements that compose them.
