Urban landscape

Abstract:

The consolidation of late capitalist society has given rise to a meta-city model characterized by discontinuity, connectivity and mutability. At an epistemological level, this has deepened Marc Augé's thesis on "non-places" to the extent that the city is unable to provide cultural anchors of its own.

The current lack of places in which life, existence and urban sense are displayed has given rise to a growing distance between the urban phenomenon and the urban life. This limitation in the access to the meaning of the urban phenomenon has reactivated a sort of relativist version of Enlightenment romanticism which moves the experience from place to landscape. The city, first of all, is now lived as an urban landscape.
