Genius Loci: The Clock House and its environment.

A. Domínguez, J. Domínguez

Abstract:

The recovery of the Clock House and its environment requires reinterpreting a consolidated piece of fabric, transforming the fragile existing gap into a powerful identity scenario capable of giving continuity to the historical memory of the place.

The morphogenesis of the urban plot is to analyze the Interior Reform of Luis Ferreres -1891- (Tomás, 2015), Federico Aymaní -1910-,...-, the successive proposals of Javier Goerlich Lleó: 1929-1935-1942 (Sánchez, Benito and Llopis, 2014), the contest of Plaza de la Reina -1951(Vvaa, 1951) - in full Autarky and the contribution of the COACV -1998- during the democratic period (Noguera, 2000).

The investigation tries to value the house built for the conservation of the Clock, located in a small body juxtaposed to el Miguelete, whose figure still prevails in some engravings and photographs of time.

Exploring the magic of the enclave supposes to unearth abundant forgotten episodes of its anthropological chronicle, whose story runs parallel to the evolution of the Cathedral Church of Santa María and its belfry projected in 1381, whose trace recalls the Euclidean layout of Serlio (Serlio, 1551).
